American Civics Undergraduate Certificate
This certificate promotes understanding of American institutions as well as the need for civic engagement and civil discourse in the public life of American constitutional democracy.
Program overview
This 12-credit certificate focuses on America’s political foundations, equipping students with critical thinking skills to help them be engaged citizens. Through the coursework, students will learn how to analyze texts and evaluate arguments and apply these skills to careers in public service.

What can you do with a certificate in American Civics?
Students who complete the American Civics Certificate alongside a B.A. in Public Affairs are well prepared for careers in government, public service, advocacy, and policy. Graduates may pursue entry-level opportunities with federal, state, and local government agencies, legislative offices, nonprofit organizations, and public policy institutions. Early career roles may include legislative aide, government affairs assistant, public policy analyst, constituent services coordinator, or program coordinator.
