Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Howard H. Baker, Jr.
The Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs and the University of Tennessee look forward to celebrating the 100th anniversary of Senator Howard H. Baker Jr.’s birth. Known as the “Great Conciliator” and famous for his Watergate question, Baker served as Senate Majority Leader, President Ronald Reagan’s Chief of Staff, and Ambassador to Japan. Please make plans to join us for events celebrating his legacy of bipartisanship and public service. Additional celebrations will be added.

Knoxville Museum of Art
Inspired by Senator Baker’s journey, we invited students to share their own perspectives by submitting photographs that tell their stories through their unique lens. Ten student photographs are now displayed alongside a selection of Senator Baker’s work at the Knoxville Museum of Art.

The Baker Award for Public Service
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of his birth on November 15, 1925, the Baker School has established The Baker Award for Public Service, recognizing outstanding young national leaders whose actions and engagements reflect the values of Howard Baker. The award will be presented at the Baker School Gala.

An evening celebrating the life and legacy of Howard H. Baker Jr. on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Heath Shuler will emcee a special program including special guest Senator Lamar Alexander and presenting the first annual Howard H. Baker Jr. Award for Public Service.
Baker Football Tailgate
Saturday, November 15, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Join us for the Baker Tailgate as part of the 100th birthday celebration of Senator Howard H. Baker Jr.! It will bring together Baker School students, faculty, and friends for an afternoon of fun, food, and community, before the Tennessee Volunteers taken on the New Mexico State Aggies.
