Jonathan Ring earned his B.A. from the University of South Dakota (2007), and M.A. (2010) and Ph.D. (2014) from the University of Iowa. He was a postdoctoral research fellow and lecturer at the University of Michigan from 2014 – 2016 and an assistant professor at Cleveland State University from 2016 – 2017.
Dr. Ring’s research focuses on developing and testing empirical and theoretical models of human rights and international norms. His work has been published in the Journal of Peace Science, International Studies Review, Asian Survey, and European Political Science.
Dr. Ring serves as the Director of Student Programs at the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy where he teaches courses on research methods and policy analysis, supervises undergraduate research, and leads the Center’s undergraduate professional development programming. His work on pedagogy has been published in the Journal of Political Science Education and The Palgrave Handbook of Political Research Pedagogy. His recent co-authored book, Gaming the System provides instructors with original games to teach core lessons of American politics.
