What graduate degrees do you currently offer online?
As of fall 2024, we offer the Master of Public Administration online.
What are the admissions requirements?
Applicants for admission to the program must have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. An overall average of 3.0 for undergraduate courses is desirable. Students must submit a personal statement and a resume/CV. In order to be eligible, students must have at least two years of professional experience.

What does the curriculum look like?
The Master of Public Administration is a 36-credit hour degree, broken down into:
- 6-hour executive practicum
- 21 core credit hours
- 9 concentration credit hours
What financial aid opportunities are available?
Students are encouraged to explore funding options through the Graduate School and at onestop.utk.edu/financial-aid
How long will it take to finish my degree?
The online program allows students the flexibility to complete their program at their own pace, so there is a range of options for the degree completion timeline. Full-time students can complete their degree in as little as 2 academic years.
How do I apply?
Students should submit an online application to the Office of Graduate Admissions
Are there any chances to meet my peers in the online program?
Yes! The Baker School will invite all online students to different regional events, such as Meet The Dean and Baker on the Road. Students are also encouraged to connect on their own time throughout their duration in the program.
Is the GRE required to apply?
No, we do not require standardized test scores for this program. Instead, we focus on admitting candidates with professional work experience and proven quantitative skills.
What are the application deadline dates?
Priority deadline is June 1, final deadline is July 1.
Will I ever be required to come to campus?
No, but all online students will be invited to the in-person orientation before classes start. In addition, students will be invited to events at the Baker School, such as speaker presentations and networking fairs.
How are the Online MPA courses structured?
All of our courses are conducted fully online and in an asynchronous format.
