Baker School Inducts Four into Pi Alpha Alpha
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, May 21, 2024 – The Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs inducted four master’s students into Pi Alpha Alpha (PAA) during its celebration honoring the Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) Class of 2024 on May 17.
PAA is the Global Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration. To qualify for membership, students must have maintained a GPA of at least 3.7 and completed at least 50% of the required coursework. Graduating MPPA students Carsen Blake, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, and Zachary Marlow, of LaFollette, Tennessee, were inducted along with first-year Master of Public Administration student Maggie Lingle, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and first-year Master of Public Policy student Brian Sekita, of Hendersonville, Tennessee. The Baker School chapter is one of more than 160 chapters worldwide.
The purpose of PAA is to encourage and recognize outstanding scholarship and accomplishment in public affairs and administration. PAA promotes the advancement of quality in the education and practice of the art and science of public affairs and administration by fostering integrity, professionalism and effective performance.
During the induction, the PAA oath was recited and Blake, Marlow, Lingle and Sekita received a PAA pin and certificate.
Launched in 2023, the Baker School continues to carry out the programs of its predecessor institution, the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, which was established in 2003 with a congressional endowment to educate and promote research that advances the public’s knowledge of our system of governance and highlights the critical importance of public service.
