Baker School Launches Certificate Programs
The Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs (Baker School) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will offer certificate programs in several strategic public policy areas beginning in Fall of 2024.
The certificates were built with all levels of education and working professionals in mind. Certificates are available as add-ons to currently enrolled students at the undergraduate or graduate level, or as stand-alone credentials for individuals pursuing their degrees at other institutions or for working professionals. Certificates require 9 to 12 credit hours for completion, and the cost is based on the per credit hour fees.
Energy Transitions (HBS 443/543) taught by Joe Hoagland, vice president of enterprise relations and innovations at the Tennessee Valley Authority, and Energy Policy (HBS 542) taught by Tim Fitzgerald, former White House chief international economist for the Council of Economic Advisers, highlight the Fall 2024 offerings as part of the Energy Policy Certificate.
U.S. National Security Policy (HBS 452/552) taught by Elis Vllasi, senior research associate and former Fulbright Scholar to Kosovo, and The Military in American Democracy (IAC 413) taught by Priscilla Zotti, a visiting professor and former dean at the U.S. Naval Academy, highlight the Fall 2024 offerings as a part of the National Security Certificate.
The Baker School Certificates prepare leaders, practitioners, researchers, and educators from public administration, public policy, public affairs, and other disciplines to participate in various policymaking activities. Course experiences will foster the examination and application of current policy research and the development of skills related to policy analysis, research, program evaluation, and advocacy.
Undergraduate certificates are available in American Civics, Constitutional Studies, Energy Policy, National Security, Nuclear Policy, and Public Policy. Graduate certificates are available in Agricultural and Environmental Policy, Economic and Community Development, Emergency Management, Energy Policy, National Security, Non-Profit Management, Nuclear Policy, Policy Analytics, and Public Management.
