Biography

Dr. John Scheb is Associate Dean and Professor at the Howard H. Baker, Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He earned his Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in political science from the University of Florida.

He joined the University of Tennessee faculty in 1982 and has held several leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Political Science, Chair of the Legal Studies Program, and Director of the Social Science Research Institute.

Scheb’s teaching and research focus on American government, constitutional and administrative law, civil rights and liberties, judicial behavior, criminal law and procedure, and public opinion.

He has authored and coauthored numerous books and textbooks used in political science and criminal justice courses. His recent publications include An Introduction to the American Legal System (6th edition, 2023), Constitutional Law Today: Foundations for Criminal Justice (2023), and Administrative Law and Policy (2021).
