David Scott is a Lecturer at Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs Institute of American Civics. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy from Lipscomb University and his Juris Doctorate and Master of Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University. He then went on to earn his Ph.D. in American Politics from the University of Tennessee. Scott is also a licensed attorney in the state of Tennessee.
Scott has served as a Lecturer of Political Science at the University of Tennessee, a Visiting Instructor of Political Science at Tusculum College, an Adjunct Instructor at Carson Newman University and Walters State Community College, and a Graduate Teaching Associate at the University of Tennessee.
Scott’s teaching and research interests include American constitutional law, civil rights and liberties, judicial politics, political philosophy, and the influence of interest groups on the Supreme Court via the submission of amicus curiae briefs. He has taught the following courses: Law in American Society; Introduction to Political Philosophy; Judicial Process and Policy Making; Introduction to Political Science; American Government and Politics; Civil Rights & Liberties; Constitutional Interpretation; The Presidency; Political Traditions of the West; Theory & Practice of Citizenship; Ethical Decision-Making in Criminal Justice; International Law; and The Hebrew & Christian Traditions.
