Dr. Stephanie Bohon serves as Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is also the founder and co-director of the department’s Center for the study of Social Justice.
Dr. Bohon’s research uses critical race theory and demographic techniques to examine the integration of ethnic minorities into the labor market. Making use of supercomputing resources at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, she works with physicists and chemists to create new data visualization and computational methods that use big data to understand how labor markets absorb migrants. Dr. Bohon has received numerous teaching and research awards including the M. G. Michael Award for innovative research and the Southern Program Excellence through Research Award for the application of research to public policy.
Dr. Bohon was the first woman to edit the journal, Population Research and Policy Review, where she currently serves on the editorial review board. She is also the author of two books, Latinos in Ethnic Enclaves and Immigration and Population.
