Institute of American Civics Debate – Is the American Dream Dying?
The Institute of American Civics (IAC), housed in The Howard H. Baker, Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs (Baker School) hosted a debate entitled “Is the American Dream Dying?” on March 21. The debate was the second installment of the flagship Civic Leadership lecture series, supported by Chancellor Donde Plowman, which seeks to facilitate respectful conversations about polarizing ideas in our society.
New York Times Senior Writer David Leonhardt and American Enterprise Institute Economist Michael R. Strain shared opposing positions on the contemporary viability of the American Dream. Kaylee McGhee White, a senior fellow at Independent Women’s Forum, moderated the debate. The Steamboat Institute presented the event which drew over 120 people to the Toyota Auditorium at the Baker School.
