Michael D. Jones

Michael D. Jones is a Professor of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the Baker School. He received his PhD in Political Science in 2010 from the University of Oklahoma and holds an MA and BS in Political Science, both granted by Idaho State University. From 2010 to 2013, Dr. Jones was a postdoctoral fellow at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University. In 2022 his intellectual contributions were recognized by Idaho State University with the Distinguished Alumni Professional Achievement Award and in 2023 by the Policy Studies Organization with the Enduring Contribution Award. He has previously served as the editor-in-chief of the Policy Studies Journal and has published in a wide range of disparate disciplinary venues such as Political Psychology, Social Science Quarterly, Policy and Politics, and Critical Policy Studies, among others. His primary research interest is policy theory, where he has devoted most of his attention and career to developing the Narrative Policy Framework, a framework applied globally that focuses on understanding the role of stories in shaping public policy processes and outcomes.
