Simeon Burns

Simeon Burns is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of American Civics in the Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He received his PhD from Louisiana State University in 2023 with a dissertation titled The Republics of Plato: A Dramatic Interpretation of the Early Cities in Plato’s Republic. His research is in the history of political thought and his dissertation was a commentary of Books II-III of Plato’s Republic. He’s taught courses in American Government, Ethics, Political Theory, and International Politics. Burns was a LSU Sidney Richards Moore Fellowship twice, from 2017-2018 and again 2021-2022, and received the Eric Voeglin Scholars and Publications Award in 2022. He teaches the IAC’s Construction and Reconstruction of the American Republic course.
